NCL’S PROJECT BREAKAWAY

Luxury suite complexes on Norwegian Cruise Line’s two new-class Project Breakaway ships are to be branded ‘The Haven’ along with those on five existing ships. On the Project Breakaway ships The Haven will consist of 42 suites plus a private restaurant, cocktail bar and concierge desk. In the Haven’s center will be a two-storey courtyard with pool, two whirlpools and a private sundeck along with two private massage rooms, changing area and sauna. More announcements about Project Breakaway are planned throughout the fall and beyond; the first ship is scheduled to open for reservations this October. Also to be branded The Haven are suite areas on Norwegian’s Jewel, Jade, Pearl and Gem which will have 18 suites. Largest of the existing suite areas which will be rebranded is onNorwegian Epic, which has 60 suites on two private decks; an additional 14 suites will also have access to the Haven Courtyard.Due: 2013, 2014
Just announced at press time: Norwegian has named their two ships Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway.

DISNEY FANTASY

A sister ship to Disney Magic, Wonder and Dream, the new Disney Fantasy will make her debut next year with 1,250 staterooms and the capacity to hold 4,000 guests plus 1,450 crew and cast members. Fourteen decks high and 1,115 ft in length, the 130,000-ton vessel is designed with families in mind – most staterooms will have unique split bathrooms; the bathroom is divided into two separate spaces by a wall and has two separate entrances. One area has a tub/shower, sink and vanity, the other has a toilet, sink and vanity, making it convenient for two people to get ready at the same time. The needs of younger guests will be catered to by Youth Clubs which will provide many interactive programs for all ages. Dining options will include adults-only restaurants and entertainment will range from spectacular live musical shows to first-run movies in 3-D at a number of venues. There’ll be three swimming pools (one for adults only, one for kids, one for families). In the magnificent atrium lobby will be a bronze statue of Mademoiselle Minnie Mouse dressed in vintage 20s and 30s travel style. Due: March 2012

OCEANIA RIVIERA

Like sistership Marina, this will be a sophisticated and elegant ship filled with designer touches. She will carry 1,250 guests (double occupancy), be 785-ft long and have a tonnage of 66,084. Aiming for country club casual ambiance and a high level of personal service she will have exciting new amenities including 10 dining venues (six of them open seating), no-surcharge gourmet restaurants, La Reserve by Wine Spectator for wine and food pairings and a Bon Appetit Culinary Center, a hands-on cooking school. Accommodations in every category will include lavish bathrooms. Due: April 2012.
