BERTH ANNOUNCEMENTS - Fall 2011
UNIWORLD ANTOINETTE
When Uniworld president Guy Young said: “ss Antoinette will be the most spectacular river cruise ship in Europe,” he had a lot of justification. From the 10-ft long blue Strauss Baccarat chandelier that formerly hung in New York’s Tavern on the Green and now races the two-deck high lobby of the ship, this is pure elegance. Fine Brazilian marble adorns the walls and floors. The elegant staterooms and public rooms, featuring meticulous attention to detail, are outstanding. Original art and fine antiques decorate the ship, staterooms on La Princesse deck have Uniworld’s unique open room balconies; the bathrooms have L’Occitane amenities and towels from Christy’s of England. Suites have special butler service and public areas include the 20-seat Le Cinema Pigalle, the first movie theater on a river ship, a panoramic main lounge, elegant Restaurant de Versailles and a mosaic-tiled swimming pool. Antoinette sails on the Rhine.
CELEBRITY SILHOUETTE
The latest addition to Celebrity Cruises, Celebrity Silhouette is as impressive as her enthusiastically received predecessors. All the usual Solstice-class features are here plus some new ones. Changes to the Lawn Club with its real grass surface provide more opportunities to relax, eat and drink: The ArtCenter, South Florida lets budding artists develop their talent and the Lawn Club Grill supplies barbecue treats. New privacy is supplied by the cabanas of The Alcoves where food can be ordered off an iPad menu and in the new style Michael’s Club, beer drinkers can sample a range of 50 craft beers from a variety of countries. Biggest in the Celebrity fleet these 2,853-guest ships have a selection of four specialty restaurants and other less formal dining options. Ideal for families and couples.
VIKING PRESTIGE
The first European vessel of 10 newbuilds that Viking planned as part of a US$250m fleet expansion program, this sleek 188-guest vessel is a ‘green’ ship that runs on hybrid diesel-electric engines producing 20 percent fewer emissions and reduced noise and vibration. The vessel has 97 staterooms (six of them singles) with French balconies on the upper and middle decks and picture windows on the main deck. There are also two 340 sq.ft. suites. Cutting edge design has been applied throughout the vessel. The sundeck has a shaded sitting area, the observation lounge and single sitting restaurant have panoramic windows. There is a library and boutique, free ship-wide wireless internet service, and laundry service. Viking Prestige will operate on the popular Romantic Danube route during the 2011 season.
